For PC users:
McAfee 8
1. After logging into Novell, locate your NAL (Novell-delivered Applications Launcher window) .
2. Make sure you are not running any other applications.
3. Double click on the icon for "McAfee 8".
4. Accept the terms for the install (click on the "Yes" button).
5. Click on the "OK" button that notifies you that the install is
complete. (You may receive a message that states "Unable to create or open log file",accept by clicking the OK button).
6. It will appear as though nothing has taken place, but it places the McAfee 8 in the startup.
7. You will be notified that your machine is about to restart. After the machine is restarted you can verify that it is installed successfully by right clicking on McAfee Virus Icon located in the toolbar and select About VirusScan Enterprise and be sure the creation date is current.
8. If your machine does not restart Go to Start, Programs and Network Associates and make sure that you see Viruscan Console utility is there.
9. Restart your machine. After the machine is restarted you can verify that it is installed successfully by right clicking on McAfee Virus Icon located in the toolbar and select About VirusScan Enterprise and be sure the creation date is current.
10. Once successfully installed the DAT files will be updated automatically around 10:00 daily while the machine is turned on.
For MAC users: Install Virex 6.1 from Campus Distribution.
How to Connect to Campus Distribution
1. From the Apple in the top left corner, select Chooser.
2. Select Apple-share (upper left hand box).
3. Select Zone Arm-Ether (lower left-hand box).
4. Select Acad_Server as a file server (on the right hand side of Chooser).
5. Enter macintosh as the user and leave the password blank, click Connect. Click OK.
6. Select Campus Distribution from the listed items, click OK.
7. Close Chooser.
8. An icon for the Campus Distribution will appear on the desktop. Double click on the Campus Distribution icon and open the Campus Distribution Alias folder.
How to Install Virex 6.1
1. Open the Virex Virus Scanner folder.
2. Open the Virex 6.1 folder.
3. Double click on the Installer.
4. Leave all setting set to the default and click on the Install button until the installation begins.
5. Once the installation is complete, click on the QUIT button.
6. A window should appear on your desktop with a VIREX icon displayed. Double click on the VIREX icon to launch the application.
For PC users: If you have installed the latest version of McAfee from the NAL, the AutoUpdate feature has been set to update the DAT files daily. You can check to see when the last update was performed by viewing the AutoUpdate information in the Virus Scan Console utility. (Go to Start, Programs, Network Associates and select McAfee VirusScan Console).
If the Last Run is listed as "Unable to Determine" or is an old date, you can force an update by selecting AutoUpdate from the list and clicking on the Start button in the tool bar.
For MAC users:
1. Within the Virex Virus Scanner folder, open the latest Virus Definition folder.
2. Double click on Virus Definitions file. This will start the Virex program and begin updating the DAT file.
3. Click on the UPDATE button when prompted.
Frequently scan your hard drive and floppy diskettes. (Remember, some computers may have several partitions of their hard drive - meaning there is more than just the c: drive to scan.)
For PC users:
1. After logging into Novell, go to Start, Programs, Network Associates, Virus Scan.
2. Make sure "All Files" is selected and run the scan on the C:\ drive by clicking on the "Scan Now" button.
or
1. Go to "My Computer", right click on the A:, C:, or other local drive.
2. Select "Scan for viruses."
For MAC users: Drag and drop any file, folder, or drive you want scanned to the Virex DropScan icon on your desktop.
